This thread is for collecting all tips/fixes in one place. I'll edit this first post as we run into issues and resolve them.

Where does Tower of Guns install to?

Tower of Guns should install and prompt to launch right away, but if something fails then the .exe file is located here: C:\UDK(or wherever you installed)\ToG_BuildV0_XX\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe.

Installation Issues
-If you run into troubles installing, try making a shortcut to the installer (note, NOT the 'installed game' mention above, but rather the initial downloaded installer file. Append "-progressonly" as a launch parameter. This is only an issue with certain service packs of Win7 and WinXp. I think.

-If you get errors on Win7 saying it needs WinXp Service Pack3 you can also try this: Right-click the .exe installation file and select "Troubleshoot compatibility", then select "Troubleshoot program". Next, check "The program worked in earlier version of Windows but won't install or run now" and then hit Next, then select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and hit Next. In the next part that appears, click "Start the program. Hopefully that will then kick off the installation process. Here's a thread with some variations of that fix that might help: http://forums.epicgames.com/archive/ind ... 32334.html

If you STILL can't install due to that weird WinXp SPack 3 prompt you could try installing (or, in some cases REPAIRING) Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5:
Microsoft .Net FrameWork 4.5
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=30653
Microsofts .Net Repair Utility:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=30135
A little How-To-Repair .Net tutorial: http://singularlabs.com/kb/how-to-repai ... framework/

Common Play Issues
Tower of Guns seems to install, but nothing happens when I run the game (no screen, no loading, no error)
You might need to run the game in Admin mode. If you go into your steam files and browse to >\...SteamDirectoryStuff...\TowerofGuns\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe, if you rightclick on UDK.exe and choose properties>Compatibility> there should be an option to run the game as an admin. That might resolve your problem.

Tower of Guns installs but crashes on launch with a error about D3DCompiler_43.dll.
This is related to DirectX. It's been reported that even newer version of DirectX may not be compatible with Windows8 64 bit, and installing DirectX9c may resolve this for you.

Tower of Guns installs and launches fine, but all I see is a black screen (or a black screen and the epilepsy warning
This seems like it might be a core compatibility issue with some Intel Integrated GPUs (at least, Intel Integrated HD Graphics 3000). If your machine has two GPUS (i.e, an intell laptop with two GPUs), setting the game to run in "performance" mode, rather than "economy mode" might help. Unfortunately there's no other known fix for this. The system requirements on steam have been updated to reflect this conflict. If you purchased the game through another vendor, some of them have refund policies you may be able to take advantage of. My apologies for the sub-optimal resolution. :-(

-If Guns/Perk unlocks won't save, or you can't move when you first launch into the game make sure you're running with administrator mode.

I've also noticed some strange game-play issues if you don't install to the default directory as well--though I imagine reinstalling the game to a different directory would be a last-ditch fix for most folks.

Running into another technical problem? Post here and I'll try and help you!

Hello! I just downloaded and installed the game. When I go to open it, it brings me to a black screen with nothing on it. When I minimize and open task manger, it reads as "not responding".

I'm running Windows 8, and I've tried running it as administrator and in compatibility mode to no avail. Any help to be had?

Hm... did it give you an errors on install? Also, in c:\INSTALL PATH\TOG\UDKGAME\Logs\ there's a file called launch.log. After you run the game and crash/quit can you post the last 100 lines or so of that file in here? That might give us some clues.

Huh. That's concerning Nipherstudent--this looks like it might be a core Unreal thing. Can you run other Unreal-based games alright? (Gears of War, Mirror's Edge, Borderlands, Bioshock?)

There's a new build coming out TODAY, around 1pm PST. You should be able to download that from your humble dashboard soon, so if you get a chance, try installing that build to the default directory and then see if the problem persists? I'm not suupper optimistic, but it's worth a shot before we start digging a little deeper.
If you're frustrated though, and I would understand, then we can talk refunds.

Hm...you DO have an intel integrated card there...how new is your machine? (I've gotten the game running (albeit choppilly) on my wife's intel-integrated machine but hers is only about a year old. I really haven't had access to very many intel-integrated graphics cards to be able to test thoroughly on them.

Yes my computer does have an intel-integrated graphics card, it is windows 8 and is from 2011 I believe. I don't own any other Unreal based games on my computer, although it does run well with almost every game/program I have ran on it. By the way, the computer is a laptop.

I will install the newer build later, but I'm okay without a refund. It was only 5 bucks and the game looks awesome so I want to give all the support I can.

One more thing, where can I find the new build? It's not under my 'Humble Bundle.'

Well, thank you Nipherstudent! That's really kind of you--for the short term I'll put a disclaimer up on the website so other folks know about the potential conflict and don't wind up in the same situation. Hopefully we can get the build running for you--but it might be awhile if its a bizarre hardware conflict though.
