Maybe some tip from a fellow on-Linux-player could help.

Is anyone reading this who has got the DRM-free (.sh) Linux version running? If so, did you do anything special or did it work off the mill?

Just bought the DRM-free version on GoG and experienced the exact same problems (strange ?DEU? texts and stuck at score screen on german OS).

Although I couldn't convince the game to ignore my localization, changing it by putting
Code:
LANG=en_US.utf8

into the start.sh works.
Solved both issues.

I also bought the GOG version to see if this problem persists. It features the exact same problems. However, it turns out, switching my system language to en-us (from German) will fix this problem in the GOG version (I assume, it's the same for the Humble version).

Is there a way to force the game language to en-us? I guess, this would solve the problem once and for all.

oh man, you bought the game TWICE--even though it hasn't worked for you at all? I'm sorry dude. ..well, if you want to give the steam version a try, let me know before you go and buy it a third time. GoG is a bit trickier to get keys for, but Steam keys I can help with. My gut tells me the issue will persist there too though.

As for the issue, Drowsy posted a start.sh fix that worked for him/her (thanks Drowsy, I just saw the post!)...have you tried giving that a go?

Well, it was on sale, after all. And I really like the game. As I said: Steam works no probs at all. GOG works after switching to en-us.

I totally did not see Drowsy's post. Will give it a whirl once I log out and back in. I'll be sure to post the results.

Don't worry, Joe. Maybe this can lead to a fix avoiding the issue at all.

Thank you, Drowsy! Also, the friendly Linux-Staff from GOG wrote the following:

Quote:
You can try editing the start.sh script. Adding this line:

Code:
export LANG=en_US.utf8

before:

Code:
execute_game "${bin32_name}" "${bin64_name}" "${bin_path32}" "${bin_path64}" "${lib_path32}" "${lib_path64}"

should make the game act as if you set the system language to English.

This is where I found it:

Code:
vim '/opt/GOG Games/Tower of Guns/start.sh'

Hooray!

Hey Awesome! :-)

Glad that worked for you PiHalbe! Also, those GoG guys are pretty awesome in general.
